Read the board, learn the movement restrictions, and plan a route through the castle.

Board and movement at a glance

Original wiki schematics: symbols explain categories; positions and arrows explain procedures. They do not reproduce the physical icons, board coordinates or adjacency between named locations. Check the physical board and official rulebook for actual routes and component artwork.

These abstract spaces show the full-border requirement. Ordinary movement also requires available card movement and the relevant permissions.

  • Four obstacles: Locked Doors, Protective Spells, Physical Objects and Water. House movement needs an enabling effect; Dark Arts may cross them. Castle walls remain impassable.
  • Secret Passageway: House only, with an enabling card effect; matching coloured ends; crossing costs one movement point.
  • Fly Off Points: both sides need an enabling card effect; transferring between them costs no movement points.

A board built for movement

The main board adapts Hogwarts Castle and its grounds for play. Read spaces and icons as game information, rather than a floor plan for another game. The side board separately records Loyalty and the Dark Arts Path. The component index and complete setup explain which pieces start on each board.

Movement connects fully adjacent spaces. House pawns face four obstacle types: Locked Doors, Protective Spells, Physical Objects and Water. Dark Arts can cross those obstacles, but Protected Areas still restrict them. Castle walls are not ordinary passages. A multi-move card follows its separate values, not an arbitrarily divided total.

Places worth finding first

Use the location index to match six verified names to official illustrations, search their uses in either language, and open larger source details. Astronomy Tower C3 and The White Tomb E1 are the only coordinates stated in the cited Location Card examples. The other four locations use illustrated identification; missing coordinates are not inferred.

PlaceWhy it matters
Great HallHouse pawns begin here and return here when bumped. The publisher’s setup illustration marks it D.
LibraryHouse players obtain Library Book Cards here; the official detail labels the space LIBRARY.
Room of RequirementMatch its curved outline and separate board piece. When revealed, it provides access to Dumbledore's Army Coins.
Hagrid's HutThe rulebook uses its blue shield to illustrate a Protected Area.
Astronomy TowerHouse Location Card example: C3, plus a highlighted location map and detail.
The White TombDark Arts Location Card example: E1. The victory example shows two pawns, rather than a universal two-pawn requirement.

The Room of Requirement is a separate piece added or removed as Loyalty changes. The opening and closing case explains the any-house/all-houses thresholds and a pawn caught inside.

Read routes, not just destinations

The board contains Fly Off Points, Secret Passageways and Bonus Spaces. Check the applicable card effect: artwork alone does not grant a shortcut. The passage-and-obstacle case distinguishes a one-point passage from a free flight between Fly Off Points.

Our editorial route check is simple:

  1. Find the destination in the location index. Match the actual Location Card’s printed coordinate, highlighted map and detailed illustration when applicable.
  2. Check the current board state. The Room of Requirement might be closed; Protected Areas restrict Dark Arts; a Location Card example is not automatically your objective.
  3. Trace each full shared border on the physical board, identify walls and obstacles, and confirm that the actual card allows the whole move.
  4. Check the space where you finish and its stated effect. Knowing a destination’s name does not grant a shortcut or require spending every movement point.

The official setup image’s A–E labels refer to placement instructions, not map grid coordinates. This wiki does not calculate shortest routes or list unverified adjacency or Secret Passageway endpoints. The index verifies six named examples, not all 21 House Location Cards or all four Dark Arts Location Cards; physical card counts are not a confirmed list of distinct destinations.

For exact layout and passage endpoints, use the physical board and publisher illustrations. Keep the tabletop reference available while tracing routes; source uncertainties are recorded under clarifications.

Changes affecting this page

  1. · 1.6.0
Consistent terms, section search and two-side teaching

Unified 35 sourced English–Chinese terms and registered all three open rule questions. Search and guide backlinks now lead to matching sections in the current language. Added card-flow diagrams, conditional Dark Arts lessons and exact movement allowances alongside the five existing House comparisons. Unknown rules, routes, card effects and future draws remain unfilled.

  3. · 1.3.0
Content quality work in this revision

Added a 24-category component catalogue, nine sourced card examples and a rechecked Alohomora entry; the catalogue remains an identified sample rather than a complete Acquire Deck. Added a complete setup and first-round walkthrough with a player-count checklist, cross-links across all eight guides, reference information boxes, a clarification register, page-specific history and local correction drafts. This records reviewed preview content, without announcing the custom-domain launch.

    Diagrams, tabletop reference and navigation

Added original component, movement and encounter schematics, a printable quick reference, site-wide search, spelling suggestions and shareable filters. Reference entries and examples gained section navigation. Diagrams explain rules without claiming exact board coordinates.
