Effect & use
Dark Arts Pawns may neither pass through nor end movement in these spaces. Hagrid’s Hut is the rulebook’s example of a protected location.
Where to find it / how to resolve it
A House Pawn can enter through legal movement; identify protection by the printed blue-shield icon.
Restrictions & timing
- Dark Arts obstacle immunity does not override the Protected Area ban.
- A House Player needs at least one pawn outside all Protected Areas to choose Learn.
Where guides use this entry
Choose Explore and play Conspire — four-move variant. This actual starter has movement 4 and no effect, unlike the other Conspire starter. Hand 5 → 4 , resolving area 1. Choose one upright pawn already deployed. Verify a fully adj…
The Dark Arts Player →Movement and encountersDark Arts pawns can pass ordinary obstacles, but cannot enter Protected Areas or pass castle walls. An encounter depends on which side finishes its move:
Cards, Spells & Tokens →Read the card before building a planNewly acquired cards go face-down on top of the draw deck, rather than straight into your hand. House players can Learn from the ordinary Acquire Row or face-down deck by discarding one hand card, or from the Advanced Acquire Row …
Hogwarts Map & Movement →A board built for movementMovement connects fully adjacent spaces. House pawns face four obstacle types: Locked Doors, Protective Spells, Physical Objects and Water. Dark Arts can cross those obstacles, but Protected Areas still restrict them. Castle walls…
Compare Your Next Action →Move now, or acquire for a later draw? The same one-card reduction buys different things: movement now or a card waiting on top of your deck.
Compare Your Next Action →Ordinary Learn or Advanced Learn?Advanced Learn spends one more current hand card and adds one Loyalty step. That does not prove its unknown candidate is better.
Compare Your Next Action →Use a Token before Learn or after it?Both orders work here. The important limit is preserving the matching hand card and finishing each action before starting the other.
Compare Your Next Action →Dark Arts: deploy a reserve pawn, or move an on-board pawn? The same four-point no-effect card pays 1 point to enter from the pool, leaving at most 3 for travel. An already on-board pawn can use all 4 for travel.
Compare Your Next Action →Dark Arts: one pawn up to 6, or two pawns up to 3 each?Use the same printed Gathering Dark Forces 3 + 3 face in both choices. Combining its two values and assigning one to each pawn are legal; reallocating it as 2 + 4 is not.

Content quality work in this revision
Added a 24-category component catalogue, nine sourced card examples and a rechecked Alohomora entry; the catalogue remains an identified sample rather than a complete Acquire Deck. Added a complete setup and first-round walkthrough with a player-count checklist, cross-links across all eight guides, reference information boxes, a clarification register, page-specific history and local correction drafts. This records reviewed preview content, without announcing the custom-domain launch.
