Frequently Asked Questions
Understand the game format, RPG search terminology, official product links and where to find the published rules.
Is this an RPG, a Roblox game or a board game?
Harry Potter: Defenders of Hogwarts is MinaLima's physical board game for 2–5 players. Players use a board, cards and pawns at the table. The official campaign identifies it as a board game, and the rulebook lists the player count and physical components. This wiki covers that product; it is a reference site rather than a game download or an online play service. Official campaign; player count — printed page 3; physical components — printed page 4.
Does the RPG search term mean a video game?
The words RPG in a search query do not determine a product's format. For Harry Potter: Defenders of Hogwarts, the official product description identifies a board game, and the rulebook's component list — printed page 4 specifies a board, cards and pawns. Use the official description and rules to identify this game rather than assuming a computer or mobile version from the search wording.
Is there an official online game or game download?
The official website currently leads to the publisher's project page. In the official product and FAQ checked for this wiki, no official online-play or game-installer link was found. Check the official website for new announcements.
The official rulebook and tutorials are learning materials, not a playable game or installer. Start with the first-game guide to learn the physical product.
Who made it?
MinaLima developed the game with designer David Waterman, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. MinaLima is known for its graphic-design work on the Harry Potter films.
Is this an official wiki?
No. This is an independent reference site. Publisher links are provided so readers can check rules and announcements directly. Community coverage helps add context, while the published rulebook takes priority for gameplay disputes.
Can everyone defend Hogwarts together?
One participant must play the Dark Arts. Houses may coordinate, but one house player obtains two Defence Shields to win. Dark Arts has its own Progress Token and Location requirements. Compare both sides in the tabletop reference before the session.
Are there redeem codes, character builds or boss drops?
No such system is verified in the sources used here. The product's physical cards and resources should not be confused with live-service game codes or loot tables. Use the official campaign and publisher contacts for genuine updates.
What should I watch to learn?
MinaLima's tutorial includes setup, both roles and endgame. Useful chapter markers are 04:52 for House turns, 09:03 for Loyalty, 13:04 for Dark Arts and 17:02 for endgame. The complete first-game lesson gives 2–5-player setup, a three-player first round and card counts. Use the component index to identify decks before watching.
Where are difficult rules and corrections recorded?
Use the timing questions for short answers on movement/effect order, second cards, reactions, discard timing and Events. The worked cases cover sequences such as bumping and stunning. These are editorial examples with official page references. The clarification record distinguishes verified rules, open source questions and site corrections. For example, the final-phase hand wording and an earlier Location Card's pawn requirement are not resolved by an invented house rule. Follow the correction instructions there when you can provide a specific source.
Does every card effect last all turn?
No. The rulebook separates instant, conditional and whole-turn effects. Check the actual wording and condition before applying an effect. The duration answer and conditional-movement example explain the distinction. Official rulebook: printed page 16.
Can Dark Arts take a Token and skip the House Event?
No. All House players first resolve their Event instructions, if possible. Dark Arts then chooses its effect or the current zone's Progress Token, if still available. The Event goes beside its matching Event deck afterward. Follow the House-first Event example or the Event order answer. Official rulebook: printed page 22.
Where can I ask about an order?
The publisher FAQ directs backers to its support ticket link and general enquiries to MinaLima's contact page. This site does not collect orders or handle fulfilment. See the release guide for published estimates and package differences.
