Resolve the House Event before choosing a Progress Token

Taking a Dark Arts Progress Token replaces the Dark Arts Event benefit, not the House Event instructions. The Event Card then goes beside its matching-colour deck.

This hypothetical situation was written by the wiki editors from the cited rules. It is an explanation, not a publisher ruling or a recorded playtest.

Starting situation

Hypothetical example before the final phase: the marker is already in the Orange Zone and a House Replenish will advance it onto an Orange Event Space. Dark Arts has the white Giant Token but not the orange Acromantula Token. Assume all House instructions on the drawn Event Card can be fulfilled. Read its actual text; this case invents no Event name or effect.

Resolve it step by step

  1. Complete House Replenish in order: optional hand discards and draw to five, stand that player’s stunned pawns, then advance the path marker one space.

  2. The marker lands on the Orange Event Space. Dark Arts draws the top Orange Event Card; White Event Cards are no longer used after the move into Orange.

  3. All House players first resolve the drawn card’s House instructions. In this assumed state they can fulfil them, so apply them before the Dark Arts choice.

  4. Dark Arts now chooses the available orange Progress Token instead of its Event effect. Take the Acromantula Token; do not also resolve the Dark Arts Event benefit.

  5. After resolution, discard the Event Card beside the Orange Event deck. It does not enter anyone’s personal Discard Pile.

  6. Continue the active House turn’s remaining permitted actions. Dark Arts now holds white and orange Progress Tokens; it must hold the orange Token before advancing into Red.

Result

The House Event part still happens, then Dark Arts gains the orange Progress Token rather than its Event effect. Two Progress Tokens alone do not satisfy Dark Arts victory.

Common mistakes

  • Do not choose a Token first and skip the House Event instructions.
  • The optional Card Effect rule does not make the Event’s House instructions optional.
  • White card effects stay unlocked in Orange, but White Event Cards stop being used; these are different colour rules.

  2. · 1.4.0
Card lookup, comparison and effect timing

Unified card navigation on the card catalogue and labelled map links as movement guides. Added attribute filters and a shareable comparison of up to four source-checked card faces. Six additional Dark Arts Starter faces bring the collection to 16 named faces and 55 reference entries. Added 11 timing questions and four hypothetical worked examples with printed-page sources. This records preview content; the complete Acquire Deck remains outside the available evidence.
