End outside first, then resolve conditional extra movement

A conditional effect is usable when its stated condition is met. The printed-page-16 example checks an outside-castle ending before extra movement becomes available.

This hypothetical situation was written by the wiki editors from the cited rules. It is an explanation, not a publisher ruling or a recorded playtest.

Starting situation

Hypothetical use of the rulebook’s own effect-type example, with no invented card name: a House player’s unstunned pawn can legally finish the played card’s normal move outside Hogwarts Castle. Assume the effect permits two extra spaces if a move ends outside, as described on printed page 16. There are legal spaces for the additional movement, and no other effect changes the condition.

Resolve it step by step

  1. Read the printed condition. The additional movement is not available just because the effect is printed on the card.

  2. Choose movement first and finish the normal move legally outside the castle. Do not spend the conditional extra movement to create its own trigger.

  3. Check the resulting position. In this scenario the outside-ending condition is now met; if the move had ended inside, this effect would not be available from that condition.

  4. Choose to use the available optional effect and resolve the permitted extra movement, respecting legal routes and the actual card’s limits.

  5. Resolve applicable landing effects and remaining actions, then discard the played card at turn end. Do not treat the conditional extra movement as an automatic bonus on every later move.

Result

The outside-ending condition is established by the normal move, so the optional extra movement can then be used. It is a conditional resolution, not a general whole-turn movement upgrade.

Common mistakes

  • Do not reverse the trigger and reward: the extra movement cannot be used first to reach the outside space in this example.
  • Optional does not remove the condition; exact card wording still governs how extra movement works.
  • The example identifies no named card and assumes legal routes rather than claiming a tested map route.

Consistent terms, section search and two-side teaching

Unified 35 sourced English–Chinese terms and registered all three open rule questions. Search and guide backlinks now lead to matching sections in the current language. Added card-flow diagrams, conditional Dark Arts lessons and exact movement allowances alongside the five existing House comparisons. Unknown rules, routes, card effects and future draws remain unfilled.

Card lookup, comparison and effect timing

Unified card navigation on the card catalogue and labelled map links as movement guides. Added attribute filters and a shareable comparison of up to four source-checked card faces. Six additional Dark Arts Starter faces bring the collection to 16 named faces and 55 reference entries. Added 11 timing questions and four hypothetical worked examples with printed-page sources. This records preview content; the complete Acquire Deck remains outside the available evidence.
