Loyalty opens the Room; a later drop can trap a pawn

One House player at the fifth Loyalty space is enough to reveal the Room for all House players. It closes only when every House player’s track pawn is below that threshold.

This hypothetical situation was written by the wiki editors from the cited rules. It is an explanation, not a publisher ruling or a recorded playtest.

Starting situation

Hypothetical sequence across several turns: Ravenclaw first reaches Loyalty space five while every other House player is below five. Hufflepuff later enters the revealed Room without a D.A. Coin. Ravenclaw subsequently drops below five through a legal rule or effect.

Resolve it step by step

  1. When Ravenclaw first reaches or passes space five, add the Room of Requirement piece to the Main Board. The opening condition is on the Side Board Loyalty Track, not a castle pawn’s map position.

  2. Other House players can now enter the Room too; they do not each need to reach space five themselves.

  3. When Hufflepuff enters while holding no D.A. Coin, take one from the supply. A House player may hold only one D.A. Coin at a time.

  4. After Ravenclaw’s later drop, check every House track pawn. In this scenario all are below five, so remove the Room piece and treat the Room as inaccessible.

  5. If Hufflepuff’s map pawn is still inside when the piece is removed, leave it there until the Room is revealed again. Do not relocate it to the Great Hall or an adjacent space.

Result

The Room is shared access unlocked by the group’s Loyalty state. A pawn inside a closed Room waits there for the Room to be revealed again; the closing rule does not give an exit move.

Common mistakes

  • A single remaining House track pawn at five or higher keeps the Room accessible.
  • Opening the Room does not give every player a D.A. Coin remotely; players gain a coin by entering the revealed space.
  • Entering again cannot exceed the one-coin holding limit.
