The last Dark Arts space starts the final phase

At the last path space, players receive their final cards and cannot Replenish again. Victory still requires the normal objectives; permitted card effects and draw spaces remain relevant.

This hypothetical situation was written by the wiki editors from the cited rules. It is an explanation, not a publisher ruling or a recorded playtest.

Starting situation

Hypothetical example chosen to avoid uncertain hand-size wording: Dark Arts arrives at the last red Event Space holding only the white- and orange-zone Progress Tokens, with no Location Card yet. All players have empty hands; assume that the event’s House-player part leaves those hands empty and no winning goal has been completed.

Resolve it step by step

  1. Resolve the red event in its normal order: apply the House players’ part first, if possible, then choose the remaining red Progress Token rather than the Dark Arts card effect. This brings Dark Arts from two Progress Tokens to all three.

  2. Take the Dark Arts Location Card immediately after securing that final Progress Token. At the last space, taking a still-missing Location Card is mandatory; this example’s newly revealed destination requires one Dark Arts pawn.

  3. Give players the final cards described by the rulebook. With empty hands in this example, this produces five final cards per player. The last-space rule is not an ordinary Replenish action.

  4. Continue playing with the final hands, but do not choose Replenish again. Do not assume that entering the final phase automatically stands stunned pawns.

  5. Check the usual winning goals during continued play: a House player collecting a second Shield wins; Dark Arts needs all three Progress Tokens and the required pawn at the specified destination.

  6. The rulebook preserves drawing through card effects and draw spaces. If everyone eventually runs out of cards without completing a winning goal, the result is a draw.

Result

Reaching the last space does not automatically award Dark Arts a win or declare a draw. It starts restricted continued play; the outcome depends on the objectives or all players exhausting their cards.

Common mistakes

  • No Replenish is not a blanket ban on all drawing: card effects and draw spaces are expressly excepted.
  • Printed page 22 says “draw up to 5 cards”; page 23 describes “5 final cards”. This example begins with empty hands. The source does not clearly explain how existing hand cards are treated, so do not use this example as a ruling on that situation.
  • The example deliberately starts with only the white and orange Progress Tokens, then takes the red token and Location Card at the last space. It does not resolve whether an earlier Location Card’s pawn requirement changes there.

Content quality work in this revision

Added a 24-category component catalogue, nine sourced card examples and a rechecked Alohomora entry; the catalogue remains an identified sample rather than a complete Acquire Deck. Added a complete setup and first-round walkthrough with a player-count checklist, cross-links across all eight guides, reference information boxes, a clarification register, page-specific history and local correction drafts. This records reviewed preview content, without announcing the custom-domain launch.

    Narrowed the final-phase example

Removed an impossible starting state from the last-space example. It begins with white and orange Progress Tokens, then takes the red token and Location Card together. Existing-hand and earlier-Location-Card questions are explicitly left unresolved.
