Three Progress Tokens are only part of a Dark Arts win
Dark Arts needs all three Progress Tokens and the required number of pawns simultaneously at the Location Card’s destination. This example takes the final token and Location Card at the second Red Event Space.
This hypothetical situation was written by the wiki editors from the cited rules. It is an explanation, not a publisher ruling or a recorded playtest.
Starting situation
Hypothetical example: Dark Arts has the white- and orange-zone Progress Tokens but has not drawn a Location Card. The marker reaches the second Red Event Space. After the resulting event, there will be one Dark Arts pawn at the Location Card’s destination.
Resolve it step by step
Draw the red Event Card and resolve the House players’ part first, if possible. Do not start by taking the Dark Arts benefit.
For the Dark Arts part, choose the still-available red Progress Token instead of the card’s Dark Arts effect. The player now holds all three Progress Tokens.
Draw and read the Dark Arts Location Card. Because the final token and Location Card were taken at the second Red Event Space in this example, two Dark Arts pawns are required at that destination.
Check the destination now: one pawn is not enough. A pawn that visited earlier but has left is not currently at the destination and does not count.
On a later legal Dark Arts Explore action, move another pawn to finish on that destination while the first pawn is still there. Taking a Progress Token does not itself grant this move.
Check both victory requirements together: all three Progress Tokens are held and two Dark Arts pawns are simultaneously at the specified destination. In this hypothetical state Dark Arts wins.
Result
The third Progress Token alone does not win. In this second-red-event example, the win occurs when two pawns occupy the revealed destination together while all three Progress Tokens are held.
Common mistakes
- Do not add a cumulative visit count: the required pawns must be there simultaneously.
- First-red-event and second-red-event examples have different pawn requirements. Read the actual timing of acquiring the Location Card.
- Unlocking red card effects is not the same as collecting the red Progress Token.
